Last week a group of level 2 General Agriculture students from the Newtown Campus of the NPTC Group were given an insight into the latest in agricultural GPS technology by Patchwork Technology.
Chris Walters Account Manager at Patchwork Technology gave a talk to the students about GPS guidance systems and the Patchwork range of products, working with different groups of students, in the morning and afternoon. After the talk students then got to have a one-to-one, hands on training session with Chris, learning how to use the BlackBox GPS system on loan from Teme Valley Tractors Welshpool. Teme Valley brought a BlackBox Go for the students to try GPS systems that use various satellites and have no subscription fee. The students soon discovered that the beauty of these boxes are that they are easy to use and come complete with Satnav, an Aerial, SD card and suction cup, everything you need in one box. Patrick Morgan one of the work based learning apprentices summed the event up "it was really good, it was great that it was a proper hands on in the cab demonstration" Course Leader Mike Lewis commented "This was a great opportunity -getting hands on experience of modern tecnology is just the sort of thing the college should be doing"
Earlier this year at LAMMA 2015 in Peterborough, Teme Valley Welshpool and Knighton were recognised as Patchwork Technology Gold Dealers, for the service and support provided and Patchwork equipment demonstrated and sold at both branches. The BlackBoxs are affordable and easy – just stick your aerial on the roof, plug in to a 3 pin socket and off you go! Draw straight lines up and down the field, eliminate the need for a Blob Marker and by keeping overlap to a minimum and reducing the time taken you’ll save money spent on fuel and labour.
