Air Products Breathes Life Into Award Winning Beers

Teme Valley Tractors are pleased to supply Air Products gases to the oldest brewery in the country. The Three Tuns historic pub and brewery in Bishop's Castle Shropshire has been brewing since 1642. Records show that King Charles 1st issued the first brewing licences in 1642 to raise funds to pay for his army fighting the civil war.

The pub has a bustling, lively atmosphere created by the many charismatic locals who regard 'The Tuns' as their home from home; it serves a huge array of real ales from the adjoining brewery including XXX, 1642, Clerics Cure, Stout and Solstice, to name but a few plus seasonal offerings. It is unique in these days of super cooled lagers, in that 70% of all beer sales are real ales. “Our philosophy at The Three Tuns Brewery is simple – we aim to produce exceptional beer that the drinker, will remember and want to taste again.”  Says Steve Wilmer from The brewery.  The Three Tuns is renowned to cask beer lovers world-wide; many confess to visiting the town purely to see the brewery and sample the beer. Their stout has won every festival it has been entered into, including The Shropshire Brewers challenge Trophy 3 years in a row. And their famous XXX was awarded Beer of Britain by the West Midlands Regional CAMRA Branch.

The Brewery uses a super hygienic food grade spec Oxygen from the Air Products Freshline range created especially for use in food processes.  Steve Wilmer the Three Tuns brewer explains “Oxygen makes the yeast work, you could say Breathes life into the Beer.  It is yeast that gives beer alcohol. Our yeast has been passed down though many generations of Master brewers and helps us preserve the unique taste.”
With over 60 years of expertise in food grade gases (Nitrogen, Oxygen, CO2, etc.) and gas enabled equipment, Air Products has a history of research, development and innovation in the food processing industry and can help customers to extend the shelf life or improve the quality of their products, and remain competitive. Steve Wilmer describes why they like to use Teme Valley Tractors as a supplier of Air Products “We are a rare survival of a small working rural brewery who want to keep our suppliers as locally sourced as we can.”

Whether your Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), cooling, chilling or freezing applications include bakery goods, fruit and vegetables, poultry, meats, ready meals, gas to pump beverages from cellar to bar or anything in-between, Air Products' Freshline® solutions offer high-purity gases and equipment, international supply capability and - most importantly - unmatched industry experience and technical support to help your businesses succeed.

Cask beer lovers worldwide look forward to Christmas at The Three Tuns as it is when they  brew “Old Scrooge” a rich dark and fiery barley wine with flavours of roasted malts. Annual historic festive traditions at the Three Tuns include Boxing day Morris dancing when The Shropshire Bedlams and Martha Rhoden's Tuppenny Dish dancers perform at the Tuns when the whole community turns out to see the Annual Boxing day hunt meet at the Castle Hotel. This year the Three Tuns are also hosting a new year’s eve disco in the pub.
