On test Fendt 312v New Holland T5.120
It was great to see Farmers Weekly’s recent comparison of the New Holland T5.120 Electroshift with a Fendt 312v. What a feather in our cap - we are certainly punching above our weight to have one of our mainstay tractors compared with a machine that costs over fifty thousand pounds more. It’s a pretty good comparison for the T5 Electroshift to be considered in the same league as a top end product and for considerably less money - what’s not to like?
Highlights of the T5 as outlined by Farmers Weekly
• New Holland has always been one of the strongest sellers in the 120 hp category
• The T5 rarely wilted an pulled away from the bigger engine Fendt on longer runs
• Clicking up through the gears in the New Holland via one of the three handily located shifting buttons was very smooth
• The New Holland wins in the loader department with the electro joystick mounted on the right hand arm rest, which falls into the hand comfortably and has thumb positioned auxiliary controls along with gear shifters on the rear for finger operation

FARMERS WEEKLY VERDICT
If the majority of your work is loader-related then the New Holland is the better choice. It’s a little noisier that the Fendt but you will most likely be paying the Germans a lot more cash for electronic wizardry that you may never use and at well over £50,000 difference in list price, that’s a lot of money to justify parting with.
If you’re dead set on having CVT the New Holland CVT transmission is known as Auto Command and is available in the T6. 145, 155, 165 and 175 and the T7 range. The T6 model is the closest to the T5 on review here. TVT Director Martyn Hall explains “Whichever way you look at it when comparing with its more expensive rivals you’re getting more for your money with New Holland.”
